Activated Alumina
It is a high-surface-area, highly porous form of aluminium oxide with efficient adsorption capacity.
It is an excellent adsorbent for pressure swing dryers and packed dryers. It can adsorb gases and liquids without changing their form. It works as a desiccant through adsorption for liquid and gas purification. As air passes through the alumina, the water in the air sticks it and becomes trapped and air that passes through an activated alumina filter is dried out. Even if immersed in a liquid, it won’t fall apart or soften.
We can restore the original adsorption efficiency of activated alumina by heating it at 150-350 °C. When the desiccant is heated as described above, the water stored in it is eliminated. This means that filters with activated alumina can be regenerated and reused repeatedly.
